Automotive and Transportation
Middle schools will be offering introductive automotive classes.
Students will learn basic automobile information and can use RC Cars. They will also visit relevant businesses in the community.
ACED Automotive/Transportation Course Description
Scientific Inquiry: Understanding the physics behind engine operation, aerodynamics, and thermodynamics.
Engineering Design Process: Experimenting with design challenges to foster creativity and practical application.
Technology Integration: Utilizing any available digital tools for simulation, diagnostics, and data analysis.
RC Cars & Applied STEM Learning
A highlight of our program is the use of RC Cars, which serve as a practical, hands-on laboratory for applying STEM concepts. By customizing, and racing these remote-controlled vehicles, students:
Explore the mechanics and electronics that drive modern automotive systems.
Experiment with engineering principles such as force, motion, and energy transfer.
Utilize coding and sensor technology to enhance vehicle control and performance.
Analyze data to optimize design and troubleshooting issues in real time.
Learning Objectives
Understand Fundamental Principles: Grasp the basic concepts of automotive mechanics, electrical systems, and transportation dynamics.
Explore STEM Careers: Investigate various career pathways in automotive, robotics, and transportation technology.
Develop Critical Thinking Skills: Use mathematical models and scientific methods to solve real-world automotive challenges.
Foster Innovation: Apply creativity in designing, customizing, and racing RC cars while integrating technology and data analysis.
Class Activities
Theoretical STEM Lessons: Students dive into the fundamentals of physics, electronics, and engineering design that power automotive systems.
Hands-On Projects: Students participate in projects that involve building, maintaining, and troubleshooting RC cars—turning theory into practice.
Collaborative Problem-Solving Challenges: Students work in teams to analyze and solve real-world automotive issues, fostering teamwork, communication, and system-based thinking.
Evaluation and Assessment
Student performance is assessed through a combination of project-based evaluations, and practical demonstrations. Emphasis is placed on hands-on participation, collaborative problem solving, and the application of STEM principles, ensuring a well-rounded, inquiry-driven educational experience.
